Free Leaf Applique Bookmark Sewing Pattern

Make a small fabric bookmark while practising straight seams, turning, pressing and topstitching. This free sewing project includes a full-size rectangular pattern, an original leaf applique template and English instructions. The finished bookmark measures approximately 60 × 180 mm.

What you will need

Two stable woven cotton scraps, each at least 80 × 200 mm, a small applique scrap, matching thread, a sewing machine, scissors, pins or clips, ruler, iron and a blunt turning tool. Fusible web for the leaf is optional; follow its manufacturer's pressing instructions.

Pattern and applique in one project

The rectangle already includes a 10 mm seam allowance. The leaf is a raw-edge applique shape with no extra allowance. Add it to the front panel before assembling the bookmark, or leave the bookmark plain. The included leaf is a printable fabric template; no machine embroidery file is included.

Print and check before cutting

Print page 3 at 100% or Actual Size with Fit to Page switched off. Measure the 50 mm square in both directions, then check that the large rectangle is 80 × 200 mm. No page tiling is needed. Read the complete instructions before sewing.

Project status

This is a free digital practice project. The dimensions and digital print scale have been checked; a physical sample has not been sewn. Practise the seam and applique on scraps first. Fabric and pressing can affect the finished measurements.
