Maxi Skirt Sewing Patterns

A long skirt's character comes from its fullness and fabric as well as its hem length. Compare two planned maxi skirt constructions: gathered tiers for increasing volume and bias-cut panels for a fluid fall.

Choose tiers or bias drape

The Tiered Gathered Skirt is planned with joined horizontal tiers, an elastic waist casing and pockets in the upper tier. Think about how the fabric will hang across several gathered layers and how much weight the waistband will carry.

The Bias-Cut Slip Skirt uses front and back panels placed on the bias, a stabilized waist facing and a side zipper. Its drape comes from grain placement and panel shape. The fabric needs time to hang before the hem is levelled.

Both briefs include midi and maxi views within their respective pattern families. Exact lengths, fabric requirements and cutting information will be confirmed when the files are prepared. A trial skirt will help assess the waist, walking room and intended hem before cutting final materials.
