Pattern Annotation Symbols — 12 Free SVG Reference Illustrations

Twelve original SVG reference illustrations for sewing-pattern worksheets, teaching sheets and vector layouts. The download includes a light-background and dark-background variant of each symbol, an editable Python generator, a JSON legend and the MIT licence.

Choose and use an SVG

  1. Open the light-background SVG folder for dark strokes, or the dark-background folder for pale strokes. Select a file, open its raw view, then save the SVG.
  2. Import it into your SVG-capable editor and resize proportionally. Keep the symbol's explanatory label beside it.
  3. Check the exported document at its intended size. These symbols use a 64-unit viewBox; that is a drawing grid, not a physical measurement.

Keep the context in words

These schematic illustrations need the supplied legend and the actual pattern's instructions. Write seam allowances, angles, dimensions and cut counts explicitly. The reference-square SVG has no calibrated physical size and cannot check your printer's scale. For print-scale work, use a separately dimensioned reference and the PDF pattern print-scale checker.

The fabric measurement methods guide explains why direction, units and the comparison method belong beside a reading.
