A lined jacket with an action back

• Long sleeves ending in buttoned cuffs
• Two chest patch pockets and two larger lower patch pockets with rounded corners
• Straight turned hem and planned full lining

The olive front and rear previews show one jacket. Copper-brown is an alternative color with the same five-button front, four pockets, collar and cuffs. The back folds start near the outer shoulders and close near the lower shoulder-blade area. There is no horizontal back yoke, front pleating, waist seam, belt, hem band or rear pocket.

Developing the folds and lining together

The action back needs its own drafting work. Fold depth, anchoring points and the amount of cloth released while reaching will be established in preparation. The lining must allow that movement instead of pulling the folds shut. These are planned construction features; the design has not undergone movement or durability testing.

The English guide will cover the rear folds, lining allowance, collar, placket, pocket reinforcement and cuffs. Begin with a complete toile over the intended underlayer. Check reaching forward, bending the elbows and sitting, then inspect whether the folds open and return without strain. The cut is for ordinary clothing, with no protective-workwear or weather-performance claim.

Fabric choices

A manageable medium-weight cotton twill or similar stable woven cloth is the starting point, paired with a smooth compatible lining. Test several thicknesses at a pocket corner, cuff and front band before choosing material. Very heavy canvas can make the folds stiff and the seams difficult to sew. Final fabric quantities, support layers and lining details will be confirmed during preparation.
