A fitted bodice and an overlapping skirt

• Soft front cowl supported by slender shoulder straps
• Separate, lightly fitted bodice ending at a level natural-waist seam

The skirt opening comes from overlapping panels rather than a slit cut into a continuous body. The overlap is at the front only; the back hem remains closed. There is no separate waistband, waist tie, boning, bust cup or pocket in this planned design. Deep wine shows the front and back, and midnight teal shows the same construction in another color.

Fabric and fitting

An opaque, fluid woven satin or comparable smooth dress fabric is the starting point. Test whether the cloth forms a soft cowl without collapsing or clinging excessively. Bias placement is not assumed for the whole dress: grain choices, edge support and any lining or facing treatment will be settled during preparation with the fabric specification.

The guide will address balancing the draped bodice, reinforcing the narrow straps and loops, joining the waist, finishing the overlap edges and installing the rear zipper. A complete fitting sample should check cowl coverage, open-back stability, lace tension and the overlap while sitting and walking. Lacing should refine a suitable bodice fit rather than compensate for an incorrectly sized draft. The final loop spacing, overlap depth and hem length will be confirmed through development.
