A gathered front and an adjustable upper back

The lacing sits above the lower back panel, which keeps the lower torso covered. This is a separate everyday top; the trousers shown are styling only. Cream and terracotta illustrate the same construction in two opaque linen colors. The back uses cloth loops and ties rather than metal eyelets.

Fabric and sewing

Consider an opaque lightweight linen, linen-cotton blend or soft stable cotton woven. Test drape, seam bulk and opacity in daylight, then sample the narrow straps and loops. Cloth that is too stiff may resist the small gathers, while a loose weave needs careful reinforcement where the lacing attaches.

Preparation will address balancing the gathered upper panels, finishing the V point, shaping the curved seams and reinforcing the strap and loop joins. A complete fitting sample must establish neckline coverage, strap length and comfortable upper-back tension. Check the top while reaching and sitting; lacing should refine the fit rather than compensate for an incorrectly shaped front. Final lining or facing needs will be confirmed with the fabric specification.

For a darted front, adjustable straight straps and a closed upper back, compare the woven camisole. The wrap-back halter top uses neck ties and a cropped underbust band. This camisole combines gathered upper panels with shoulder support and a longer lower body.
