Choose a stable knit-backed fleece

A medium-weight polar fleece with a stable knitted backing is the starting fabric direction, paired with a compatible smooth knit lining. It should have enough flexibility for layering without excessive sideways stretch at the zipper. Pile texture in the previews is illustrative; the required stretch, recovery, weight and lining compatibility will be confirmed during preparation. Quilted woven cloth and a collar-only version are outside this brief.

Sample the fleece and lining together before cutting. Test zipper support, seam bulk around the hood and the curved pocket openings. The English guide will address joining and lining the hood, installing the separating zipper, finishing the armholes, assembling the low pockets and closing the lining. Keep pile clear of zipper teeth and choose stabilizing materials that do not make the front rigid.

Check the vest over your intended layer

Make a complete fitting sample over the top you expect to wear underneath. Check armhole coverage, forward reach, zipper alignment, hood depth and pocket access. Sit with the front closed to assess hip room and hem position. The preview does not establish a tested fit or warmth rating.
