Fabric and sewing

A soft linen, fine cotton or fluid linen blend is a starting point for the smock shape. Compare drape, opacity and the thickness of gathered seam allowances before selecting material. A firmer cloth will hold the sleeve volume away from the arm, while a softer one will settle into narrower folds.

Sewing would focus on smooth drawstring channels, durable tie openings, controlled wrist gathering and clean pocket joins. Test the channel and tie combination on a sample to check that adjustment remains easy after washing.
