A deep pointed back yoke and softly cut-on sleeves shape this planned dolman shirt dress. The button-front bodice meets a slim upper-calf skirt, with two curved inset pockets and a small rear walking pleat. The peacock-blue previews show one original 1950s-inspired design on an adult female model.
A pointed yoke above a slim pocket skirt
- Separate pointed turn-down collar framing a modest open V
- Four working center-front bodice buttons, ending at the natural waist
- Woven dolman sleeves cut together with the bodice, without a conventional set-in armhole join
- Below-elbow sleeves finished with separate narrow turnback cuff bands
- Deep central-point back shoulder yoke, with gentle gathers beneath the yoke and at the rear waist
- Level natural-waist seam joining the bodice to a slim upper-calf skirt
- Two smooth curved inset front hip pockets, a plain rear skirt and a center-back kick pleat
- Narrow matching belt with a small covered rectangular front buckle
The skirt front stays closed and uninterrupted below the bodice opening. The front, rear and closer detail retain the same collar, cuff height, pocket curves and slim skirt. This design is supplied in the cuffed sleeve and upper-calf length shown.
Fabric and fitting plans
Opaque, supple cotton sateen or fine cotton twill is the starting direction. Choose cloth that can support the collar, cuffs and pocket openings while allowing the back gathers to hang softly. Test washing, shrinkage, pressing and seam bulk before choosing interfacing. Material quantities, required ease and finished measurements will be set during preparation.
The English guide will address the cut-on underarm curve, collar and front facings, cuff bands, pointed yoke join, waist gathering, inset pockets and rear walking pleat. A complete fitting sample should check arm reach, shoulder balance, button access, waist comfort, pocket placement and seated skirt movement. The preview does not establish a sewn fastening or tested fit.
Compare the shirt-dress shape
