1910s Evening Coat Sewing Pattern

A generous shawl collar, wide cuffs and three cord fastenings give this 1910s-inspired evening coat its distinctive shape. Sewlore SL004 combines a loose body with integral sleeves and a separate lining, making room for the dress or blouse worn underneath. Choose a softly draping brocade and a contrasting velvet collar for a rich evening look.

Designed for experienced sewists comfortable with lined garments, curved seams and handling contrasting fabrics. This is a new interpretation of early twentieth-century style, not a reproduction of a specific historical pattern.

The handbook covers size selection, finished measurements, print calibration, page assembly, cutting, materials, collar and cuff construction, lining, fastenings and fitting. Read START_HERE first, then choose one size and one print format. You do not need to print every file.

Print at 100% or Actual Size and check the calibration square before printing the remaining pages. Home-print sheets have a 10 mm overlap for assembly. A0 files are for a copy shop. Sizes are supplied as separate files, not selectable PDF layers.

Choose your size by measurements

All 10 pattern sizes, 6 to 24 with EU references 32 to 50, are included in the same purchase. Use the body measurements below rather than your usual clothing size. Draft height basis: 168 cm (approximately 5 ft 6 in).

Bust range: 78 to 117 cm (30.7 to 46.1 in). Hip range: 83 to 122 cm (32.7 to 48 in). The size labels belong to this pattern chart and are not a universal ready-to-wear conversion. EU38 has a drafted centre-back length of 82 cm from the neck seam to the finished hem. Compare the finished measurements in the handbook with your intended underlayers.

Fabric, notions and seam allowances

Use a non-stretch woven fabric with enough drape for the loose silhouette, such as a supple brocade, jacquard or lightweight coating. Choose compatible contrast fabric for the shawl band and outer cuffs, plus a smooth lining. Velvet needs one-way cutting and careful pressing.

For EU38, conservative estimates at 150 cm fabric width are 2.1 m main fabric, 1.3 m contrast fabric and 2.6 m lining. Allow extra for pattern matching, nap, shrinkage and alterations. Consult the size-specific cutting information before buying fabric. You will also need thread, suitable support or interfacing and three purchased cord frog fastenings.

Seam allowances are included: generally 1 cm, with a 3 cm outer hem and a 2 cm lining hem. Follow the marked cut and stitch lines on each piece.

Before cutting your final fabric

This pattern has not yet been sewn or fit-tested; model images are AI-generated previews. Make a full fitting sample over your intended underlayers and check the collar, sleeve movement, closure and length before cutting your final fabric.
