1917-Inspired Belted Military Coat PDF Sewing Pattern

Planned design

A notched collar frames the single-breasted front. Two chest pockets and two larger hip pockets use small central pleats and pointed buttoned flaps. A self-fabric belt closes with a rectangular buckle, while long two-piece sleeves finish with short buttoned cuff straps. An inverted center-back pleat is planned below the waist to allow movement.

This project draws on late-1910s tailoring. It is an original fashion interpretation; it is not a verified service uniform, and no insignia is included. The olive-khaki and slate-blue previews show the same cut.

Fabric and sewing

Consider a medium-weight wool serge or stable wool blend with a light lining. Test interfacing around the collar, pocket flaps and belt. Accurate pocket placement, sleeve shaping and a trial fitting over intended layers will matter. Confirm shoulder reach, seated comfort and the pleat opening before using final fabric.
