Planned design
Six shaped gores create the planned form. A narrow self-fabric waistband finishes the top, while a concealed left-side closure keeps the front uninterrupted. Long seams continue toward a lower-calf hem, giving the skirt its characteristic movement without pleats or gathering. The back follows the same panel logic, keeping the outline balanced when viewed from either side.
Fabric and sewing notes
The navy concept suggests a fine wool crepe with a softly falling hand; warm cocoa offers an alternative within the same design. A supple woven suiting could also be considered. Compare a sample against the desired drape, and allow time to check how the long panel seams hang before deciding the final hem.
This project focuses on accurate panel assembly, pressing shaped seams, stabilizing the waistband and setting a discreet side closure. A toile will help assess waist placement, hip room and walking ease before cutting the final cloth.
