1920s Cocoon Wrap Coat PDF Sewing Pattern

Deep dolman sleeves and broad rolled front edges create the generous upper shape of this 1920s-inspired cocoon coat. Its long lower section falls to mid-calf without a waist belt. A single low side fastening brings the front across the body; worn open, the same edges fall like a long stole.

The coat's defining lines

• Broad sloping shoulders and integral sleeves with deep underarm drape
• Wide sleeve openings without separate turn-back cuffs
• Softly rolled shawl fronts and a single covered button at the low hip
• Long, nearly straight lower body with a level mid-calf hem
• Low horizontal back-panel join and loose vertical folds below
• Open-front stole styling using the same garment

The back-panel arrangement, facing finish and fastening plan are Sewlore development decisions. There is no fitted waist seam, belt, fringe or pointed front hem. The proposed lining will need enough movement allowance to follow the deep sleeves without pulling the outer cloth.

Fabric that supports the drape

A supple velvet is the starting direction for the illustrated evening version. Soft wool crepe offers another direction to evaluate in sampling; a firm coating would change the relaxed underarm folds. Test the chosen fabric's weight, nap, seam bulk and pressing response. The narrow metallic-tone edge is intended as restrained piping, not a heavily beaded border.

Fit over the intended dress or other underlayer. Check shoulder balance, sleeve lift, overlap when seated and walking clearance below the low fastening. The guide preparation will cover the rolled fronts, lining movement allowance and a neat enclosed hem. Make a complete fitting sample before cutting velvet.
