Full pattern details

A broad rounded collar and matching sleeve bands give this relaxed day dress its 1920s character. Flared panels open at each side below the hip, while the continuous front and back keep the silhouette long and simple. The short sleeves are cut together with the body for a soft shoulder line.

This is a digital sewing pattern for making the dress. No finished garment, fabric or printed paper pattern is included.

Design details

  • Relaxed, unlined woven-fabric dress with short cut-on sleeves
  • Flat rounded contrast collar and matching 5 cm sleeve bands
  • Two flared side skirt panels with marked joining points
  • Faced 10 cm front neck slit, finished with a small hook and thread eye
  • Continuous center front and center back, with no waist seam across either
  • 112 cm from the high shoulder point to the finished hem, drafted for a reference height of 168 cm

What the download contains

  • A 20-page English sewing handbook with illustrated construction steps, material planning, printing instructions and fitting notes
  • A 1-page technical overview PDF with front and back drawings
  • 10 editable Seamly2D drafts and matching SVG files

There are 32 PDF files in total. You only need the pattern PDF for your chosen size and paper format, plus the handbook. The technical overview shows the design and is not a cutting template.

Choose your size

All 10 pattern sizes, 6 to 24, are included. The body chart covers bust measurements from 78 to 117 cm and hip measurements from 83 to 122 cm. EU reference labels run from 32 to 50; use the measurements below rather than your usual ready-to-wear size.

Body measurements in centimetres
Pattern size / EU reference Bust Waist Hip
6 / 32 78 58 83
8 / 34 80 61 85
10 / 36 83 64 88
12 / 38 87 67 92
14 / 40 92 71 97
16 / 42 97 76 102
18 / 44 102 81 107
20 / 46 107 87 112
22 / 48 112 94 117
24 / 50 117 99 122

Compare both bust and hip with the chart, then review the finished measurements in the download. The dress has a deliberately relaxed shape. Adjust the length and side-panel height to suit the wearer.

Printing and page counts

A4 and US Letter counts include the calibration page, assembly maps and pattern tiles. Each A0 file contains two full-size sheets. The handbook and technical overview are separate files and are not included in the table below.

8 / 34 38 39 2

Print at 100% or Actual Size. Check the 10 cm calibration square in both directions before printing the remaining pages. Home-print tiles have a 10 mm overlap. Choose one paper format for your size; there is no need to print the whole download.

Fabric, notions and sewing level

Choose a lightweight woven dress fabric with a soft fall and enough stability for the inset corners. Cotton lawn, fine crepe or a suitable viscose can work, with a compatible contrast fabric for the collar and bands. The handbook includes conservative fabric planning estimates for 150 cm fabric. Allow extra for matching directional prints and for a fitting sample.

You will also need matching thread, light interfacing, marking tools and a small hook with a thread eye. The design is unlined. Use a separate slip if your fabric is sheer. Embroidery motifs, machine embroidery files and accessories are not included.

Sewing level: confident intermediate to advanced. The inset corners, collar finish and narrow front slit need accurate marking, careful clipping and pressing.

Pattern pieces and allowances

The pattern has six pieces: front, back, side skirt inset, flat rounded collar, cuff band and front slit facing. The front and back are cut on the fold. Collar and cuff pieces include their inner layers in the cutting instructions.

Allowances are included: 1 cm for construction seams, 2 cm at the dress hem and zero at fold edges. The slit facing has 1 cm at the neckline and no turn-under allowance on its remaining outer edges; those edges are overcast or overlocked as explained in the guide.

Sew a fitting sample before cutting your final fabric.

Color and fabric ideas

Black with ivory gives the rounded collar and sleeve bands a clear outline. Dusty rose with the same ivory trim offers a softer interpretation of the identical dress. These styling concepts preserve the existing continuous front and back, short cut-on sleeves and flared side insets; the original six-piece pattern and technical specifications remain unchanged.

Choose compatible lightweight woven fabrics so the collar lies flat and the 5 cm sleeve bands keep their shape. Sample the contrast against the main fabric after washing and pressing. A plain cloth makes the inset seams easier to read; a directional print needs extra care at the panel joins. These images illustrate color choices, not additional pattern views.
