Planned design and sleeve views

The surplice front crosses the torso and continues into a generous skirt overlap. A continuous, gently shaped body reaches a lower-calf hem without a separately gathered waist seam. The narrow matching belt ties at the side. A broad ivory scalloped collar frames the neckline, while two lower-hip patch pockets gather into contrasting top bands. The back stays simple, with the belt running smoothly around it.

The leading images show the new long-sleeve view: relaxed set-in sleeves extend to plain wrist hems. Indigo-blue and madder-red fine checks illustrate that same view. The short-sleeve images show the existing relaxed upper-arm-length option in cornflower blue and soft green checks. Both sleeve lengths are planned for this one pattern; colors are fabric suggestions.

Fabric and sewing

Consider cotton gingham, light cotton broadcloth or another supple washable woven. Choose collar and pocket-band fabric with compatible weight and shrinkage. Check placement will need care at the collar, visible wrap edge and pockets.

A toile should confirm sitting and walking coverage, belt placement, neckline, arm reach and sleeve length. Test the scallop edge and pocket gathering in a fabric sample before cutting the final cloth.
