1930s-Inspired Evening Gown PDF Sewing Pattern

A draped neckline and a fluid floor-length skirt define this 1930s evening-gown family. The sage and apricot images show the new View A; the original petrol-blue images remain View B. Both planned gown views are covered by this order.

View A: cowl front and back godet

• Sleeveless broad shoulder sections supporting a softly folded cowl front
• Low V-shaped open back with a small upper-back tie and hanging ends
• Smooth long body panels, fitted hips and a narrow self-fabric waist sash
• Gradual skirt flare with an inset center-back godet and a small floor sweep

This view is planned for straight-grain cutting. Its fluid appearance is not a promise of bias construction. The waist sash defines the line without imposing View B's separate shaped bodice and waist-seam construction. The low back, tie position and planned side entry need to be checked in a fitting sample. Sage green and apricot show the same cut.

View B: original shaped-waist gown

This view keeps its sleeveless bodice with a softly draped front neckline, low back with shoulder coverage at the straps, and a shaped waist seam joining the separate bodice to a floor-length skirt. Its long skirt panels are planned to fall smoothly before flaring at the hem. View A's upper-back tie and inset godet are not added to this original view.

Fabric and sewing notes

Consider a fluid crepe, soft satin or a comparable woven evening fabric after testing its drape and opacity. Slippery or loosely woven fabrics may need additional support, and the low back will influence lining choices. Control neckline drape, support the opening and balance the long hem. Check shoulder coverage, seated movement and back-tie access in a full fitting sample. Let the skirt hang before leveling its hem; keep accessories simple so the neckline remains clear.
