Planned design
- Loose hip-length body with an unfastened front
- Soft neck edge continuing into long flat scarf-like front bands
- Deep integral dolman sleeves gathered along the upper shoulder and outer arm
- Open sleeve ends with no cuff band
- Smooth flowing back with a center seam and a slightly flared, nearly level hem
This order covers the shrug only. The images suggest layering over an evening dress or simple top; those garments are not included. There is one planned sleeve treatment, shown from front and back.
Fabric and sewing notes
A fluid silk velvet or a comparable soft woven can make the sleeve folds clear. Test gathering on a generous swatch before choosing the final cloth. Velvet needs consistent nap direction, careful handling and pressing suited to the pile. A fitting sample should check neck-to-wrist length, underarm movement, the depth of the sleeve drape and the finished hip line. Spread the gathering evenly so it supports the shape without forming a rigid ridge.
