1940s French-Dart Gored Slip PDF Sewing Pattern

Diagonal French darts and a softly flared gored skirt give this original 1940s-inspired full slip its shape. The planned straight-grain construction creates definition through shaped fabric sections rather than relying on bias drape.

Planned construction

• Narrow self-fabric shoulder straps and a softly V-dipped front neckline
• One diagonal French dart on each side, rising from the side waist toward the bust
• Centre-front joining line and shaped lower skirt sections that open into a below-knee flare
• A shallow rounded back neckline, centre-back seam and shaped back panels
• A discreet side opening planned for dressing; final closure placement will be resolved during preparation

The pistachio front and back previews show the same design. The blush front offers an alternative color. The front darts end below the bust, leaving the upper bodice smooth.

Fabric and fitting

Consider a fine opaque woven with enough drape for the gored hem and enough stability to press the darts cleanly. Test seam slippage, dart pressing and the side opening in a fitting sample. Preparation will check bust, waist, hip, strap length and finished hem length together.
