1930s Low-Back Slip PDF Sewing Pattern

Narrow straps, a softly scooped front and a deep U-shaped back define this original 1930s-inspired slip. The body follows a continuous line without a horizontal waist or underbust seam; small side-bust darts shape the front.

Four planned hem views

• View A — plain long hem: the pale-apricot front and back previews show the simple ankle-length silhouette.
• View B — double ruffle: the powder-blue front shows two gathered tiers at the lower skirt.
• View C — smooth flounce: the ivory front shows a single deeper flared flounce joined smoothly, without gathered tiers.
• View D — side vents: the final pale-apricot front view shows a plain long skirt opened at the sides. Finished length and vent height will be resolved during preparation.

All four choices retain the same narrow-strapped upper design and low back. Views A and B are planned around bias drape. Grain and hem construction for the flounce and vented choices will be settled with the selected fabric during preparation. The gallery shows design options, not measured finished samples.

Fabric and fitting

Choose an opaque, fluid lightweight woven after testing seam slippage and recovery on the chosen grain. Allow bias sections to settle before checking the hem. A full fitting sample should check bust shaping, strap length, neckline stability, low-back security and movement at the hem. This is a slip design with evening layering possibilities.
