Raised, open pocket mouths give this 1940s-inspired dress its distinctive hip line. Front waist pleats fan softly into a high-neck bodice, while a narrow belt meets a slim upper-calf skirt.

Planned design and included views

• High round neckline and front bodice pleats rising from the natural waist
• Inset peg-top hip pockets with standing outer tips and softly scooped open mouths
• Optional contrast binding around the pocket edges
• Long or three-quarter sleeves with modest shoulder fullness and gathered narrow cuffs
• Separate skirt at the natural waist and a narrow self-fabric belt
• Rear waist darts, a short back-neck slit with a single button and loop, and a planned concealed side entry

Both sleeve lengths and the self-fabric belt are included in the planned pattern. Bottle green shows the long-sleeve front and back; burgundy shows the three-quarter-sleeve front. Warm-cream pocket binding highlights the raised edge in both palettes.

Fabric and sewing notes

Consider a medium-light woven crepe with enough body to hold the pocket lips. Test light interfacing or a facing inside the raised tips without making the pocket edge rigid. The narrow skirt, belt position, sleeve movement, side entry and pocket access all need checking in a fitting sample. The rear vent is part of this proposed development to allow stride; its final depth will be set during preparation. Hats, gloves and finished garments are not included.
