A square sailor collar and a softly bloused waist shape this original 1940s-inspired two-piece outfit. The blouse and skirt are separate garments that can be worn together or mixed with other pieces.

Planned set and sleeve choices

• Sailor blouse with a V-shaped front collar and broad square collar at the back
• Long sleeves gathered into narrow cuffs, or short sleeves with fitted bands
• Three narrow trim lines around the collar and cuffs or sleeve bands
• Separate fabric neck tie, included in the planned set, with a front neck zipper concealed beneath it
• Gently flared mid-calf skirt with a narrow waistband, two rounded front patch pockets and one inverted pleat at each center front and center back
• Planned concealed left-side skirt zipper; plain skirt back without pockets

The long-sleeve navy set is shown from front and back. Ivory short-sleeve blouse previews show the same navy skirt and collar treatment. The pleats have folded fabric beneath their openings; they are not open leg slits. Both sleeve options, the blouse, skirt and neck tie are covered by this one planned pattern set. No hat or embroidery design is included.

Fabric and sewing

Consider opaque cotton poplin, a stable cotton-linen blend or another light-to-medium non-stretch woven. The collar needs support without stiffness, while the skirt should press into an inward fold. Use colorfast braid and test the trim before washing. A fitting sample should check collar depth, neck access, skirt pleat release and sleeve movement. The skirt opening and waistband finish will be resolved together.
