Six front buttons and broad peaked lapels give this planned 1950s men's suit its defined shape. The jacket and matching trousers form one two-piece set, shown in slate blue-grey and charcoal.

Jacket and trousers included

• Hip-length double-breasted jacket with three visible button pairs, shaped overlapping fronts and pointed peak lapels
• Left breast welt pocket, two lower flap pockets and two-piece long sleeves with small cuff buttons
• Shaped jacket back with a center seam and short center vent; planned lining and front support
• Matching natural-waist trousers with two forward pleats on each front, back waist darts and straight full legs
• Waistband with belt loops, concealed button fly, slanted front pockets and rear welt pockets
• Pressed leg creases and turn-up cuffs

The separate trouser preview makes the waist shaping visible beneath the jacket. Jacket and trouser pieces are included in the planned set. The shirt, tie and shoes are styling only; no waistcoat is included.

Fabric and tailoring

Consider a medium-weight wool twill or flannel with enough body for the overlap and enough movement for the trouser pleats. Test canvas or other compatible jacket support with the chosen cloth before preparation. Check shoulder balance, chest ease, overlap while seated, trouser rise and cuff length in a complete fitting sample. Pocket placement, lining ease and fastening support need to be developed together.
