A short button opening leaves the lower front of this planned men's pullover shirt unbroken. The long rounded tails, small side gussets and detachable pointed collar draw on 1920s and early-1930s shirting.

Collar and cuff choices

• Half-length center-front button placket ending above the waist
• Long untucked shirttail with small reinforcing gussets at the side slits
• Narrow back yoke with restrained fullness beneath it
• Long sleeves with cuff plackets and a single left chest patch pocket
• Detachable pointed collar over a narrow neck band; the band can be worn with the outer collar removed
• Straight button cuffs or turned-back double cuffs

Powder-blue cotton with ivory collar and cuffs illustrates the pointed-collar arrangement from front and back. The fine blue-on-ivory striped view shows the band neckline with straight cuffs. The separate collar-and-cuff study shows the removable pointed collar, a straight button cuff and a folded double cuff. The cuffs are alternative sleeve finishes, not detachable cuffs; collar studs and cuff links are not supplied. Both illustrated cuff treatments belong to this one shirt pattern. Fabric and sewing

Choose an opaque non-stretch cotton shirting that presses cleanly. A smooth poplin or fine plain weave gives a crisp placket; test interfacing in the removable collar and cuffs without making them rigid. The sewing guide preparation will cover placket reinforcement, yoke assembly, gusset finishing and collar attachment. Check neck comfort, head access through the short opening, arm movement and tail length in a fitting sample.
