Fabric and fitting

An opaque, fluid jersey with reliable recovery is the starting point. Test the fabric in a folded sample: an overly thick knit may produce bulky shoulder layers, while a very soft cloth may lose the intended shape. The draft will establish required stretch, ease and neckline stabilization. Woven fabric is not interchangeable with this knit construction.

Development will focus on how the collar passes around the upper arms, where the sleeve joins sit and how the garment returns to position after reaching. A fitting sample should check shoulder coverage, upper-arm movement, seated comfort and the long hem's walking clearance. Flexible seam finishes must suit both the chosen knit and the weight of the dress.
