- Shaped side seams for a close but fluid line over the hips

Choosing fabric for a satin or silk slip-skirt look
A fluid woven crepe or viscose is a useful starting point. A suitable satin or lightweight silk may also give the intended drape, but the fabric name alone does not establish suitability. Test a swatch for opacity, recovery, seam stability and how it hangs on the bias. The final fabric recommendations and quantities will be confirmed during preparation.
A small floral print, a plain satin finish or a muted everyday color changes the look without changing the pattern. Heavily embellished, crinkled or pile fabrics need separate testing before use.
Length and fit planning
Compare your waist, full hip and waist-to-hip depth, as well as your intended finished length. For a petite fit, check the position of the hip shaping as well as the hem; shortening only at the bottom may not place the shaping correctly. Make a trial skirt and allow the bias panels to settle before finalizing the hem.
Sewing the bias-cut skirt
The English guide will cover grain placement, handling cut panels, supporting the waist and levelling the hem after hanging. This version uses a facing and side zip. An elastic waist is not part of the current design brief.
