Fabric and construction

A light to medium-weight opaque woven with a soft fall is the starting direction. Cotton sateen, a supple poplin or a comparable stable cloth can make the darts and ruffles clear. Test a gathered swatch and a narrow ruffle hem: stiff fabric may make the shoulder edges project too strongly, while a heavy fabric can weigh down the peplum.

The English guide will address bust and waist shaping, supporting the front opening, joining the low collar, inserting the shoulder ruffles, distributing peplum gathers and finishing the sleeves with opening cuffs. Button spacing, cuff access and the exact peplum depth will be resolved during preparation. A full toile should check the waist position while sitting, front overlap at the bust and forward arm movement.
