A continuous-body playsuit with button shoulders

• Broad sleeveless shoulder sections with two buttons at each front shoulder
• Scooped front neckline and a high, shallow square neckline at the back
• Long front and back shaping darts with continuous center-front and center-back seams
• Concealed center-back zipper for dressing access
• Two large front hip patch pockets with reinforced upper edges and angled lower corners
• Roomy short legs with deep turned hems and a plain rear without pockets
• No waistband, belt, waist join, front fly or side opening

The olive front and back show the same design; warm brick is a second fabric color. The buttoned shoulders are part of the planned fastening, with the back zipper providing additional access. This is one adult romper pattern, also called a playsuit. Footwear is styling only.

Fabric and sewing

An opaque medium-light linen-cotton blend or a stable soft chambray is a starting choice. The cloth should hold a pocket edge while bending comfortably through the seat and short legs. Wash and press a swatch first, then compare the thickness of the folded pocket openings and shoulder layers. Stretch jersey would require a different draft.

The English guide will address the long darts, shoulder buttonholes, enclosed neckline and armhole edges, patch-pocket reinforcement, back zipper and turned hems. The continuous body makes torso length and sitting room especially important. Make a complete fitting sample to check shoulder position, bust and hip ease, seated comfort and access through the openings before using final fabric. Button spacing and zipper length will be established during preparation.
