Fabric starting point
A lightly quilted woven fabric is a useful starting point. Before choosing the final cloth, fold a sample through the proposed binding and test the machine over stacked layers. Thick batting may change the fit and make pocket corners difficult to finish. For a self-quilted version, allow for take-up and check the final dimensions after quilting.
Development and fitting
The sample should be tried over the layer it will cover. Raise both arms, reach forward and check whether the back or sleeve opening restricts movement. Pocket height also needs a wearer check before it becomes fixed. Binding width, internal finishing and sleeve hems remain part of development; the concept does not promise a reversible construction.
