Fabric starting point

Choose compatible woven fabrics with a similar weight and drape for the first trial. A soft crepe or suitable rayon may provide the movement this shape needs. Test dark and light colors together for bleeding before sewing. A trim that is too rigid could distort the curved joins, so its stability and stretch need to be checked against the dress fabric.

Development and fitting

The sample should establish the depth of both V openings and the placement of the crossed bands. Check that the shoulder sections remain in place when moving and that the upper panels provide the intended coverage. Opening position, seam finishes and any lining will be determined during development. Allow the long skirt to settle before deciding the final hem level.

Choosing this design

The crossing lines here are applied at shaped panel joins. They are not the separate back straps of our cross-back yoke trapeze dress. This distinction matters for both coverage and construction, and should remain clear when comparing the two projects or selecting a fabric combination.
