A-line shape and planned lengths

A fitted waistband, front and back waist darts and a concealed back zipper define the base skirt. Controlled flare develops through the side seams. Mini, below-knee and ankle-length maxi views are now part of the preparation brief for this same family. The new maxi concept preserves the smooth waist and gradual A-line shape; hem sweep, walking ease and front-to-back balance still need to be established in the draft and checked in a sample.

Closure options within one family

The illustrated base uses the concealed back zipper. Two additional closure briefs are planned within this product: a functional button-front opening with a supported overlap and fitted band, and a pull-on woven view with an elastic casing and enough waist opening to pass over the hips. The elastic view will have gentle waist gathering rather than the smooth darted waist. These alternatives require their own pattern details and are not instructions to replace the zipper in an unchanged skirt. They are not shown in the current previews.

Fabric and sewing

Cotton sateen, linen suiting or a light wool blend are possible starting points for the fitted-waist views. Fabric weight, interfacing and closure choice must work together. Practice darts and the selected fastening before completing the garment, and assess a trial skirt before cutting final fabric.
