A sheer surface over an opaque foundation

The muted plum previews pair a plain sheer overlay with a matching opaque foundation. Coverage is planned across the bodice and upper legs, with a narrow transparent edge below the lower skirt foundation. Choose the two fabrics together: their weight, stiffness and surface friction affect how the circular layers separate and move.

A fine sheer woven with enough body for the outer layers is the starting direction. Test it over the chosen opaque woven before buying the full quantity. The preparation process will determine the lining arrangement, seam finish and whether light flexible hem support is useful; no fixed braid width is specified.

Balance the layers in a fitting sample

The English sewing guide will address princess-seam shaping, joining the sheer and opaque sections, making the neck ties, stabilizing the upper back edge, inserting the zipper and attaching both skirts at the waist. Circular hems need time to settle before their lengths are balanced. Keep the overlap even around the front, sides and back without allowing either layer to pull on the other.

Check the halter tension, armhole coverage, back-edge security and zipper access in a complete fitting sample. Sit, reach and walk to assess the intended coverage and skirt movement. The neck ties fasten the neckline; they do not replace a properly balanced bodice. Final ease, seam allowances, stabilizing details and construction order will be established during preparation.
