A short body with long bell sleeves

• Smooth shoulder coverage and a very short back ending around the upper shoulder blades
• Curved open front framing the upper chest
• Softly rolled high collar with one discreet hook-and-eye at the front throat
• Set-in sleeves with smooth upper sections and lightly gathered joins above the elbows
• Asymmetric bell drapes, shorter at the front wrists and trailing below the knees behind
• Narrow finished edges and a clean curved back hem

Deep teal shows the front and back of the same shrug. Mulberry wine is another color of this one design. The sleeve drapes belong to the joined shrug; there is no long cape panel across the back. This order covers the shrug only.

Fabric, collar and movement

A lightweight, fluid woven crepe is the starting fabric direction. Choose cloth that forms soft folds while giving the short upper body enough stability to sit neatly over the shoulders. Sample any support at the collar and fastening with the main fabric. A heavy cloth could pull at the neck, while a stiff cloth would change the long sleeve fall.

The English guide will address the short body, collar finish, sleeve setting, controlled gathering and curved hems. The throat fastening needs a small reinforced area; its final position and the collar depth must be checked on a fitting sample. The short back hem should remain comfortable when reaching forward.

Fit the sample over the intended dress or top. Check shoulder width, upper-arm ease, collar comfort, hand clearance and the length of the trailing drapes while walking, sitting and raising the arms. The previews show a proposed silhouette and do not establish tested fit or movement. Lining, facing and support choices will be confirmed during preparation.
