A fitted yoke above gathered wide legs

The gathering sits at the lower yoke seam, not at the waist opening. The design has no fly, pockets, belt loops, drawcord or decorative buttons. Leaving the yoke plain keeps its shape and the lower gathered join visible. The ivory top and shoes in the previews are styling items and are not included.
Fabric and fitting
An opaque, fluid linen blend, soft woven viscose or suitable lightweight cotton is a starting point. Compare the fabric folded into gathers and pressed as a smooth doubled yoke. Heavy cloth can add bulk at the hip join; very soft cloth may need extra support along the upper edge and zipper.
Preparation will establish the yoke depth, rise, wearing ease, gathering distribution and zipper length together. The fitted yoke does not have an elastic section to accommodate changes in waist or hip measurement. Make a complete fitting sample to check sitting, walking, dressing clearance and the position of the gathered seam. Final fabric quantities, support and seam finishes will be confirmed during drafting.
For a narrow band with rear elastic and slant pockets, compare the flat-front elastic-back palazzo pants. The 1940s wide-leg trousers use a waistband and dart shaping.
