Gored Kirtle PDF Sewing Pattern

Prepared after purchase. Digital delivery within 1 business day. Long uninterrupted seams shape this planned front-laced kirtle through the body. Two triangular pieces inserted at the side seams add fullness below the upper hip, keeping the fitted torso distinct from the flowing floor-length skirt.

Continuous panels and a gored skirt

• Four body panels running continuously through the waist
• Shallow rounded neckline with a narrow faced finish
• Reinforced center-front lacing from the neckline to the upper hip
• Matching fabric beneath the lacing for coverage
• Closed center-front skirt seam below the laced opening
• Two triangular side gores, widening toward the floor-length hem
• Long curved set-in sleeves ending in plain wrist hems
• Closed back with a center joining seam

The four-panel body is shaped at its long joining seams. There is no horizontal waist seam, separate skirt waistband or princess-panel arrangement. This release covers one long-sleeved, front-laced view. A belt, hood and underdress are not included. The design is a new medieval-inspired interpretation; it is not presented as an authenticated historical reconstruction.

Fabric and lacing

A supple, opaque linen or compatible linen blend is the starting point. Compare cloth that follows the fitted torso without becoming rigid at the gore joins. Peacock blue shows the front and rear; burnished copper shows the same construction in another color. These previews represent one pattern design.

The English guide will address the long body seams, insertion of the side gores, neckline facing, sleeve setting and reinforcement around the front opening. Lacing should secure a comfortably fitted gown rather than force the waist smaller. Final eyelet treatment, support layers and opening length will be developed with the fabric specification.

A complete toile must check bust and waist ease, lacing-gap coverage, shoulder balance, sleeve reach and dressing access. Walk and sit in the sample to assess the gore placement and hem clearance. The pattern is not designed as a waist-reduction or support garment; the finished fit remains to be established during preparation.
