High-Slit Tie-Waist Knit Tunic PDF Sewing Pattern

Prepared after purchase. Digital delivery within 1 business day. A simple T-shirt upper body extends into two long, open-sided panels in this planned knit tunic. Narrow wrap ties bring the waist closer while the panels fall over trousers, giving a light layered silhouette.

A long layer with open sides

• Rounded neckline finished with a matching knit band
• Separate set-in short sleeves ending just above the elbow
• Continuous front and back extending to mid-calf, without a horizontal waist seam
• Side openings from the natural waist to the hem
• Long narrow ties anchored at the side waist, wrapped and tied in a side bow
• Plain gently widening lower panels, turned hems and a covered upper back

Wear this open-sided design over opaque trousers or another suitable lower layer. The lower panels do not form a closed skirt. The ivory trousers and shoes shown are styling only and are not included in the pattern order. Petrol teal shows the front and rear; muted clay shows the same tunic in another color.

Fabric and construction

A soft, opaque jersey with reliable stretch recovery is the starting point. Compare drape, weight and opacity on a hanging swatch: heavy cloth may pull on the shoulders, while very thin jersey may curl along the long openings. The final stretch requirement will be established during preparation. Woven fabric is not interchangeable with the planned knit.

The guide will address the neckband, sleeve joins, tie anchors and finishing the long open edges. Reinforcement at the top of each opening must support the ties without making that area stiff. A fitting sample should check dressing clearance, arm movement, panel width and how the layers behave when sitting or walking. Set the tie length and hem position on the sample before cutting the final fabric.
