Notched lapels and a long straight line give this sleeveless layer the feel of a tailored jacket. The design is intended to finish at mid-thigh and to be worn over separate trousers, with enough room for a shirt beneath.

Design details

• Notched lapel collar and a single-button front
• Mid-thigh length with gentle waist shaping
• Two horizontal welt pockets
• Separate lining and a centre-back walking vent

Fabric and construction

Choose a stable medium-weight suiting or linen blend with enough body for the lapels. A smooth lining will help the vest slide over other clothes. Lapel support, precise pocket placement and the lined back vent make this a more involved sewing project.
