Planned construction
- Curved front and back hip yokes carrying the upper shaping
- Gathered lower skirt panels attached to the yoke seam
- A faced upper edge for a clean waist finish
- Side zipper opening and a turned lower hem
Choose fabric around the yoke
A stable light or medium-weight woven cotton, chambray or soft linen blend could be considered. The fabric needs to support the shaped upper section while allowing the gathered panels to fall. Test the bulk of a gathered seam beneath the yoke and compare interfacing with the chosen cloth before making a final selection.
The English guide will cover assembling the curved yoke, matching its joining marks, distributing the lower-panel gathers and finishing the waist facing and zipper. A trial skirt will help establish the yoke depth, hip room and balance of the joining seam. Final lengths and fabric quantities will be confirmed when the pattern is prepared.
