Square Block Rag Quilt PDF Sewing Pattern

Prepared after purchase. Digital delivery within 1 business day. This planned square block rag quilt uses a repeated checkerboard of muted teal and warm ivory, with clipped seam allowances adding texture between the blocks. The design is one rectangular throw for a sofa or chair.

A square grid with exposed rag seams

• One rectangular throw arranged as four columns and five rows of equal square blocks
• Alternating muted teal and warm ivory front squares in a checkerboard layout
• Exposed clipped seam allowances toward the front along every block join and around the perimeter
• Individual cream backing squares with smooth reverse joins, planned during development
• A simple X quilting line through each layered block
• No bound border, animal-shaped panels, central opening, ties or separate size variants

The previews show the same twenty-block layout laid flat, with a corner turned to show the planned reverse, and draped over a sofa. The front uses ten teal and ten ivory squares. The cream backing is planned as individual squares joined with the seam allowances directed to the front; it is not a separate loose backing cover.

Fabric and construction planning

Woven quilting cotton or cotton flannel with compatible shrinkage and a suitable fraying response is a possible starting point. The backing and any light inner layer need to be sampled together. Test washing, clipping and seam strength on a small layered sample before choosing the final cloth; the previews do not establish how a particular fabric will behave.

The English guide will cover arranging the checkerboard, quilting the layered blocks, matching row intersections, directing the exposed allowances consistently and clipping without cutting the structural stitching. Final block dimensions, seam allowances and any inner layer will be set during preparation. The brief is for an adult-room decorative throw, with no infant sleep or outdoor-performance claim.
