Design and fabric

These tailored shorts are planned with front pleats that open below a fitted waistband, giving the leg a shaped, roomy outline. A zip fly and angled pockets make this a dedicated shorts design, with the seat and rise considered for sitting as well as standing. Try a medium weight cotton twill or a linen blend with enough body to hold a crease. The sewing guide would focus on controlling pleat intake, constructing the fly and keeping pocket openings flat. A plain fabric would show the pocket lines and pressed front folds clearly.
