Two cropped upper shapes share a gathered midi skirt in this planned woven set. The main top has a square front neckline and broad shoulder sections. An alternative bandeau view offers a straight upper edge without straps. Both are intended to sit above a softly gathered skirt, leaving the waistband and the proportions of the separates visible.

The two tops require separate fitting checks. Those details would be established during development. A trial outfit should also assess the crop length against the skirt rise, both standing and seated.

Fabric and sewing

A lightweight linen, linen blend or controlled cotton woven is a starting point. Choose a fabric that allows the skirt to gather while retaining a clean edge on the cropped tops. Test opacity, creasing and the bulk of a doubled neckline finish. A very loose weave may need a different approach to stabilising the top edges.

Sewing would focus on accurate square-neck corners, tidy upper finishes and an elastic casing that distributes fullness evenly. The bandeau needs its own sample before final fabric is cut. Let the long skirt hang before levelling the hem, then reassess the balance of each top with the completed skirt shape.
