A cape that grows from the dress neckline would bring movement across the shoulders while a shaped bodice and gently flared skirt define the body underneath. This vintage-inspired design is planned as one garment, with the cape secured into the upper dress construction.

Planned construction

• Sleeveless dress body with shaped seams through the bodice
• Shoulder cape attached at the neckline and upper back
• Free cape edges leaving room for arm movement
• Gently flared skirt and a concealed side zipper

Fabric and sewing notes

Consider a woven crepe or another draping fabric that can hold a clean bodice seam without making the cape stiff. A sample should check how the cape hangs over the arm openings and how the fastening can be reached beneath it. Neckline stability and shoulder balance need particular attention.
