A waist shaped with released pleats

• Three narrow vertical pleats on each side of the front and back, stitched through the waist and released above and below
• Continuous bodice and skirt with no horizontal waist seam or separate waistband
• Band collar and a covered-button half placket ending above the waist
• Fitted set-in cap sleeves and an above-knee A-line skirt
• Discreet side-seam pockets and a concealed left-side zipper
• Plain center-back seam and a simple turned hem

Fabric and sewing

Fine cotton poplin or another opaque, stable woven can hold the pleat edges while allowing the skirt to open gently. Avoid very bulky cloth at the stitched pleats and test any softer fabric in a swatch before choosing it.

The English guide will cover marking and stitching the waist pleats, making the half placket and band collar, setting the cap sleeves, and inserting the concealed side zipper. Preparation must balance the pleat intake with bust, waist and hip ease. A complete fitting sample is needed to check the released pleats when sitting, the armhole movement and the zipper opening.
