This planned women's drawstring wide leg pants sewing pattern combines an all-around elastic waist with roomy woven legs and two oversized front patch pockets. A small matching drawcord finishes the gathered waistband, while the long legs fall to plain hems.

Wide woven trousers with exterior patch pockets

• High waist with a separate fully elasticated waistband

The pockets are sewn onto the outside of the trouser fronts; they are not inset slant pockets. This pull-on design has no fly, pleats, belt loops, flaps, bellows pockets or cuffs. Fabric and waist construction

Medium-light opaque cotton twill is the starting fabric direction. Choose a supple cloth that will gather comfortably at the waist but retain the outline of the large patches and wide hems. The blue preview is a color direction, not a requirement to use denim. Preview texture is illustrative: test the actual fabric for shrinkage, opacity and bulk before cutting.

The separate waistband will contain elastic for the full waist circumference, with a matching drawcord exiting at the center front. Casing layout, elastic width, drawcord openings and reinforcement will be resolved during preparation. The plain rear is a Sewlore development choice for this version. The English guide will address the front patch shapes, turned pocket openings, perimeter topstitching, trouser seams, waistband assembly and balancing the full-length hems.

Checks for your fitting sample

Make a complete sample in a comparable woven fabric before using final cloth. Check that the waistband stretches far enough to pass over the hips, then assess the waist position, seat and rise while sitting and bending. Test hand access and pocket depth without distorting the sloped openings. Confirm that the drawcord remains accessible and that the wide hems clear the floor with the intended shoes. Final ease and pocket placement need wearer checks; the preview does not establish a tested fit.
