Design and fabric

A straight body, notched lapels and a centre-back vent define this planned women's coat. Shaping through the front and side panels would leave room for layers while keeping the outline controlled. Long and shorter car-coat views would share the collar, sleeve and pocket construction. A wool coating or structured coating blend could be considered with suitable interfacing and lining. The guide would cover building the lapels, placing welt pockets and joining the lining around the vent. The first toile would be used to assess shoulder balance and the amount of room required over the intended clothing.
