1910s-Inspired Draped-Hip Dress PDF Sewing Pattern

A plain, softly bloused bodice lets the angular hip drapes define this 1910s-inspired dress. Long pointed side layers open over a narrow ankle-length skirt, while a broad self-fabric sash brings the waist into focus. Celadon and dusty rose previews show how a quiet solid color reveals the changing folds.

The planned silhouette

• Modest shallow neckline with a simple finish
• Soft short sleeves and gentle ease through the upper bodice
• Broad self-fabric waist sash over the bodice-to-skirt join
• Angular overlayer attached at the waist, with longer side points and an open center front
• Uninterrupted straight ankle-length underskirt with low walking ease and a concealed back opening

The pointed layer is part of the dress rather than a separate scarf. Its length and placement must be balanced against the underskirt so it hangs freely without restricting movement. The concealed opening and back layout are original Sewlore planning decisions, to be checked during drafting.

Celadon or dusty rose

A supple silk crepe de chine or another woven with similar fall is the intended fabric direction. A stiff cloth would stand away from the hip instead of forming the illustrated folds. Sample the bodice and drapes in fabric of comparable weight; test opacity before deciding whether an underlayer is needed. Use one coherent cloth for the sash and draped layers so their color and sheen remain consistent.

Sewing and fitting focus

The preparation guide will address controlling the waist join, supporting the neckline and finishing the angular edges without stretching them. Let the draped layer settle before judging the hem. Fit a complete toile to check shoulder balance, waist position and ease when sitting or walking. The loose upper shape should not be tightened to imitate a modern fitted evening bodice.
