Planned design

The tunic has short kimono sleeves, a shallow V neckline with a small ribbon tie, and angular points at the side hem. Narrow lace follows the neck, sleeve openings and lower edge. Loose trousers gather at the waist under the top and finish in narrow ankle casings with a small ruffle. A simple drawstring waist is planned so the amount of gathering can be adjusted.

These are original design studies based on a period silhouette. The sage and antique-rose previews share the same construction. The order covers this individual set, with its own pattern and guide.

Fabric and sewing

Consider opaque silk crepe, soft cotton lawn or a similarly fluid lightweight woven. Check the lace against the fabric for weight, shrinkage and care. The wide sleeve and pointed hem need careful narrow finishing; seam samples will help avoid puckering. Check seated ease, trouser rise, sleeve movement and ankle comfort in a toile before cutting final cloth.
