A generous, softly folded crown gives this 1920s-inspired tam its relaxed shape. The fabric falls to one side above a narrow fitted band, with a slim ribbon defining the lower edge. Black with ochre trim and forest green with black trim show two period-inspired color directions for the same cloth hat.

A soft crown with controlled fullness

The extra folded view is a wearing and finishing idea, not a second independent hat pattern. Crown volume, band circumference and the depth of the folds will be balanced during original development.

Fabric and fit planning

Start with a soft woven wool or supple wool blend that holds broad folds without becoming stiff. A bulky coating can overwhelm the band, while very thin fabric may need gentle support. Test the ribbon, lining choice and seam bulk together. The black-and-ochre palette emphasizes the band; forest green produces a quieter tonal outline.

Take the head measurement where the band will sit and account for the intended hairstyle. Check a sample for comfort over the forehead and ears, secure placement and enough crown volume to arrange the folds.
