1950s Draped-Bust Kimono Blouse PDF Sewing Pattern

Prepared after purchase: USD 25. Soft folds gather into a small vertical fabric bridge at the centre of this original 1950s-inspired blouse. Shoulder-curving drape panels frame the sweetheart front and continue into short grown-on kimono sleeves.

Planned blouse details

The draped bust sits above a smooth fitted lower body with long shaping lines. The hip-length hem has a narrow turned finish. The back combines a narrow raised neck band, a plain upper panel and long waist shaping; there is no button or zip opening. This is a pull-on stretch-fabric blouse, with no waist tie or separate bolero.

The rose front and back previews show the same design; soft black is its second color. The small centre bridge is fabric, not a brooch. All three views retain the same sleeve length, drape placement and lower-body outline.

Fabric and sewing

Choose an opaque, softly draping jersey with suitable stretch and recovery. Silk jersey or a comparable stable stretch fabric is a starting point; the necessary stretch percentage will be established during development. A rigid woven is not an automatic substitute.

Preparation will address the shoulder panels, balanced bust gathers, bridge attachment, lower-body shaping and narrow edge finishes. A fitting sample must check dressing clearance, bust coverage, sleeve movement and hem position before final fabric is cut.
