1950s Drawstring Beach Bag PDF Sewing Pattern

Prepared after purchase: USD 25. A rounded flap sits over the gathered mouth of this original 1950s-inspired beach bag. Its single long shoulder strap and soft, full pouch body give the design a compact outline with room to develop useful depth.

Planned bag construction

The lined body has a rounded lower outline and shaped side seams. A drawcord gathers the mouth beneath the flap, while a covered button secures the flap at the front. Narrow contrast binding finishes the flap and strap edges. The back stays plain, with no exterior pocket or zip.

Navy with ivory edging is shown from front and back; brick red with the same ivory trim is the alternative color. Both belong to one design. The flap button is an independently selected Sewlore detail.

Materials and preparation

A stable cotton canvas or sailcloth with a compatible lining is the starting point. Interfacing should support the flap and body without making the gathered mouth too stiff. Preparation will address cord channels, lining access, curved seams and reinforced strap attachments. Finished dimensions, carrying capacity and strap comfort remain to be developed and tested in a sample.
