1950s Raglan Back-Belt Coat PDF Sewing Pattern

A raglan coat with crossed back tabs

Sapphire blue appears from front and back; russet brown shows the same front in another color. The crossed tabs sit at the rear waist area and leave the front uninterrupted. This original interpretation covers one long coat view. Its lining, collar support and tab attachment details will be developed together during pattern preparation.

Fabric and fitting plans

A supple wool crepe coating or comparable woven coating is the starting direction. Look for enough body to hold the collar and welts while allowing the lower coat to move. Test the outer cloth, interfacing and lining together, especially at the rounded collar edge and layered back tabs.

The English guide will address raglan seam alignment, welt-pocket construction, collar assembly, front fastenings and lining. Make a toile over the layers you intend to wear. Check neckline balance, arm reach, upper-arm ease and the effect of the rear tabs before finalizing their position. Confirm walking and sitting clearance at the long hem.
